Weight Loss Yoga
You have probably heard it many times, "Yoga is a great way to lose weight without side effects". But, is it really? Yoga is a spiritual practice to discipline mind, body and spirit. There are many different types of yoga exercises. Some of them are aimed at reducing stress, improving posture, healing physical ailments and discovering self.
So, what about weight loss? Is Yoga really the most effective way to lose weight without worrying about side effects? The main focus in yoga is always to bring unity between the mind, body and spirit. Although yoga asanas might help in weight loss, they are not specifically designed for weight loss. All yoga exercises help to tone and strengthen the body muscles that in turn help create a healthy body. Yoga enhances flexibility and helps you correct the problems caused by weight gain. However, yoga is not a quick fix to weight gain, but it can be an excellent long term alternative approach to weight loss and fitness.
What about yoga for those who struggle with self confidence when it comes to weight loss?
Yoga can be an excellent tool to boost self confidence among these individuals. Yoga provides a safe way for these individuals to communicate with their body and clear out the self destructive messages. Yoga creates a rich flow of prana (life energy) in the body which can be extremely beneficial if your weight loss campaign has been jeopardized due to lack of energy and motivation.
You can also use yogic diet to help you lose weight. Yogic diet is high in fiber, whole grain and vegetables. It might be the best way to combat fat, meat and processed food. Embracing a yogic lifestyle means self respect, discipline and action. This might be the perfect way for people who find it difficult to get off the couch and get moving given its emphasis on self discipline. Yoga is a process and a lifestyle. It is not a quick way to lose a pound or two. Yoga is a holistic approach to reaching a healthy lifestyle and maintaining it.

Preventing Colon Cancer
Most of the time, we give little thought to the idea that we may be setting ourselves up for colon cancer. We don't drink enough water, or eat the right foods - and our colons are filling up with disease ridden excess waste and rotting fecal matter without us even realizing it. In fact, most people don't think about colon cancer until they either have it or someone they love has it.
The first step to preventing colon cancer is understanding what the risk factors are. Knowing that you are at risk will help motivate you to take the necessary steps to prevent it. Even if you are at high risk for colon cancer, there are steps that you can take to decrease your risk.
Age is one of the biggest factors. While young people can also get colon cancer, people over fifty are at the highest risk. Those who have a family history of cancer, as well as women who have had breast cancer, uterine cancer, or ovary cancer are at high risk. Your diet can put you at risk. If your diet is high in fat and calories, and low in fiber, you are at high risk for colon cancer.
Other risk factors include polyps on the wall of the colon or rectum and ulcerative colitis. If you have had either of these conditions, you will most likely develop colon cancer later on. People who have IBD, or Inflammatory Bowel Disease, or Crohn's Disease are also at high risk.
As with any other illness or disease, it is ideal to prevent it instead of waiting to do anything until you actually have it. Prevention is easier than curing a problem. The first step in prevention is to get regular screenings. In many cases, the only sign of colon cancer is polyps that are in the colon. Finding and removing these polyps early helps to prevent full blown colon cancer.
You may also need to make dietary changes. Lower your intake of fat and calories, as well as your intake of meats and alcohol. You should increase the amount of exercise you do as well. Experts also recommend that you stop smoking, and use dietary supplements to ensure that you are getting enough minerals and nutrients.
You should get five servings of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, calcium, and folic acid each day. It is important to maintain a healthy weight as well. The use of baby aspirin each day is also recommended.
Another good way to prevent colon cancer is to cleanse your colon annually. This can now be done in a gentle manner, with the use of oral products.
Annual colon cleansing, increasing your water intake, and making dietary changes will all help to prevent colon cancer. However, you should also get regular screenings to make sure that no polyps have developed. When colon cancer is detected early, it is the most curable form of cancer that there is.

Hypnosis and Weight Loss
The problem with talking about hypnosis and weight loss, or hypnosis and many other things for that matter, is that there often are few, if any, studies on whose results you can hang your hat. In this world where it seems everything is studied from every different angle, it seems that the final conclusion is that hypnosis can help you lose weight...or not.
There are plenty of claims of success by the myriad of hypnotherapists of all kinds who have put up websites and gone into the "Hypnosis can cure..." business.
Actually, the problem is not even whether or not hypnosis can or cannot be a tool in a healthy weight loss program. That much, at least, is pretty well agreed upon. The question seems to be how to use it and how much effect it actually has on an individual's weight loss.
That brings us to another factor. We are dealing with individuals, and individuals tend to react differently to the efforts of hypnotherapists in ANY attempt to produce a viable effect.
Most claims found for hypnotherapists on the internet, whether they are claiming that hypnosis is effective for weight loss or not (and most are) is that they ARE successful. Like many other things that can be effective and valuable in weight loss, or almost any other endeavor, the unknown fact is what does "effective" mean to these people and can they define "effective" in terms of so many successful outcomes in so many total attempts. This is the problem. There are no numbers, at least none that I could find.
However, many studies DO exist that show that hypnosis CAN be combined with other standard weight loss efforts to produce a better outcome. For example, it has long been known that changing eating habits and attitudes towards food can help with weight loss. It has been found that hypnosis, combined with behavior modification, tends to meet with greater success than behavior modification or attitude alteration alone. It seems that the hypnosis does what it often does best...it relaxes the subject, allows them to focus and concentrate, and helps them learn their lessons, if you will, more quickly and efficiently.
Bottom line? Hypnosis alone is not very likely to produce profound effects on weight loss. This is particularly true in light of many hypnotherapists' claims that "only one session" will cause a massive, immediate, and continuous weight loss. If anything, for most people, hypnosis is simply one more weapon in an arsenal of weapons in the war against obesity. As always the main weapons will be regular physical activity and sensible eating habits.
